NCDOT Awards Contract for Buncombe County Road Improvements

More than 16 miles of Buncombe County roads will be improved as a result of a recently awarded N.C. Department of Transportation resurfacing contract.

A $3.5 million contract was awarded to Harrison Construction of Nashville, Tennessee, for the project. Work can begin as early as March 15, 2015, with final completion scheduled for Oct. 15, 2015. The following sections of road will be resurfaced in this project:

  • U.S. 25 from N.C. 146/Long Shoals Road to Overlook Road
  • U.S. 25/70 from Jupiter Road to the Madison County line
  • U.S. 25A at Mills Gap Road
  • N.C. 191 at the I-40 bridge
  • Jupiter Road from N.C. 25/70 to N.C. 197
  • Old Mars Hill Hwy/ Stockton Road  from New Joint Road to the bridge
  • Monticello Road from Alexander Road to N.C. 251
  • Chandler Branch Road from Ramsey Road to the Madison county line
  • New Stock Road from Shepard Branch Road to Jupiter Road
  • Jupiter Road from the Madison county line to U.S. 25/70

These roads will be open to traffic throughout the project with flagmen directing motorists through the construction site when lane closures are in place.

This is one of the nine road and bridge contracts worth $173.4 million recently awarded by NCDOT for projects across North Carolina. The contracts were awarded to the lowest bidders, as required by state law. The low bids received on the projects were about $7.9 million below NCDOT estimates.
