There’s always that one show you meant to watch when it originally aired, or the de jour program you need to catch up on before its final season, and the Oakley Library has your back. As a testament to libraries being community resource centers, the Oakley Library simultaneously excels at orthodox functions while being responsive and nimble to its community needs. “Recognizing that not all patrons have access to premium channels and streaming sites, we try to provide as many of the popular series as possible in our permanent DVD collection,” exclaims Oakley Branch Manager Cheryl Middleton.
Of course, the Oakley Library has a traditional portfolio of resources and services, and those are augmented by attentive, eager, and well-trained librarians, “Our staff strives to give the best customer service possible and has a high level of technical expertise across all areas of library resources that we are happy to share with patrons,” notes Middleton. “One-on-one assistance is available on request whether patrons need help with our online resources or help printing a resume.”
Another standout feature of the Oakley Library focuses on children and young adult interests. From wall paintings featuring Winnie the Pooh and the Cat in the Hat to an expansive, well-stocked selection of juvenile and young adult graphic novels, there’s cozy reading nooks and a vast array of material to check out or read right there. And if the multimedia selection isn’t enough of an allure, there are diverse and exciting programs for children from birth to school age, along with additional programming you can find on the library calendar and Facebook page:
- Preschooler story time every Wednesday at 10 a.m.
- Toddler story time every Wednesday at 11 a.m.
- Baby story time every Thursday at 11 a.m.
- Lego Club for school-aged kids on the first Saturday of each month from 10-11:30 a.m.

Middleton adds: “And there’s usually a Passive Program for children in progress where they can win incentives just for participating. Recent Passive Programs included a Star Wars Reads Day, Pumpkin scavenger hunt, Shark Week photo booth, and for Harry Potter fans there was the Azkaban Photo Booth, Sorting Hat Quiz, and Pick a Patronus,” noting that quite a few older wizards (parents) also got in on the activities.
