General Statement of Duties
The Nurse Family Partnership Supervisor provides supervision and direction to nurse home visitors intensive preventive health and social services to a subset of at-risk pregnant women and children birth to 2 years of age. (#2018) 

Special Requirements
Master's in Nursing or active pursuit preferred. A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the NC Board of Nursing. 

Examples of Work
The Nurse Family Partnership Supervisor will utilize advanced nursing skills to provide individual and family needs and physical assessment, screening for eligibility, case management assignment, and complex education and referral for community intervention services for high-risk families to promote positive family functioning and child outcomes. Conducts periodic family interviews and helps client to understand the importance of wellness through early screening procedures, health counseling and education when conducting quarterly home visits with the nurses. The Nurse Family Partnership Supervisor reviews referrals from community agencies and the Health Department to determine appropriateness of the referral for the program and works closely with other family support/case management programs in the state and community; participates in the development and implementation of a community-wide triage system; serves as liaison with other health and human service providers and maintains a positive working relationship to enhance the referral process and client access to other services. The NFP Supervisor assists in developing guidelines and policies that reflect the local community; educates and empowers staff to produce positive family outcomes; build the staff’s capacities; participates in ongoing extensive project monitoring/evaluation and quality improvement activities; participates on BCHHS Leadership Team, trauma informed initiative, ACEs steering committee and other agency teams that relate to program specific outcomes. The goals of the program are to achieve family outcomes as good as or better than the outcomes that have been demonstrated through research. The Nurse Family Partnership Supervisor will work to assure the NFP nurses remain in fidelity to the model to reproduce positive outcomes for low income first time mothers and their children.  

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrates superior knowledge of the principles and practices of public health and maternal-child nursing and the fundamentals of child growth and development; demonstrates knowledge of community resources; thorough knowledge and skill in the administration and organization of public health programs; thorough knowledge of public health nursing and supervision of staff and programs; considerable knowledge of the resources and organizations concerned with public health work in North Carolina, and current social and economic problems pertaining to public health; considerable knowledge of public health administration on the local level; considerable knowledge of educational methods and training techniques; considerable knowledge of State and federal laws relating to public health. Ability to plan, coordinate, and supervise the work of others and to present findings, comments, and opinions clearly and concisely in oral and/or written form; ability to exercise good judgment in appraising situations and making decisions; ability to plan and execute work effectively and to deal tactfully with the public and other health professionals. Individual will perform duties as a representative of a public agency and is subject to high standards for personal and professional conduct; must have ability to efficiently and cordially interact with co-workers to accomplish common tasks. Ability to have efficient and courteous interaction with the employer’s customers; ability to function in highly stressful circumstances; ability to maintain high level of professionalism and to conduct business in an ethical manner at all times.  

Minimum Education and Experience
Master’s in Nursing and three years of Public Health nursing experience (including one year of experience in a supervisory capacity); or graduation from a four-year college or university with a B.S. in Nursing which includes a Public Health Nursing rotation and four years of Public Health nursing experience (including one year of experience in a supervisory capacity); or a Master’s in Public Health and graduation from a school of professional nursing and three years of Public Health Nursing experience (including one year of experience in a supervisory capacity); or graduation from a school of professional nursing and five years of professional nursing experience four of which must have been in Public Health (including one year of experience in a supervisory capacity); or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
