Garden Volunteers Needed

A women gardening for tomatoes.

We are always looking for volunteers and you don’t have to know much about gardening itself to be a part of this wonderful community project.  There are always little things that need to be done besides planting and weeding.   This Spring we need help with setting up a new trellis system for tomatoes and other climbing plants.  Repairs to our irrigation hoses and mending the gate fence are other “non-gardening” things we need help with.

Our spring lettuce and kale starts will be arriving soon from Living Web Farm.

This is the 7th season for the Sand Hill Community Garden.  A great deal of care and attention has gone into making this garden a success.

This year the garden members hope to improve their education by learning ways to improve harvests and how to do new things such as mulching sources other than leaves, pest control, caring for hazelnuts and creating a biomass and how to use it.

Produce will be donated to a local Welcome Tables weekly meal and additional produce will be available for those attending the meal to take home to their families.  This year we will also be donating fresh produce to ABCCM Hominy Valley Crisis Center in Candler.

Once again in 2016 the Sand Hill Community Garden raised over 2,000 pounds of fresh produce for the community.

Workdays are  Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings.  Regular workdays will begin in April.  Check the board on the Garden Shed door for information about upcoming planting days.
