Wanda Greene
The County Manager serves as Chief Executive Office of Buncombe County government, appointed by and serving at the pleasure of the Board of County Commissioners, which sets policies and adopts ordinances that regulate Buncombe County government. In addition to carrying out the day-to-day administration of County government, the County Manager is responsible for implementing policies established by the Board of Commissioners, coordinating the work of all County agencies, and representing the County in dealings with other governmental units and agencies.
The County Manager provides a clear vision of Buncombe County government’s purpose. The Manager’s duties include preparing the countywide recommended budget, recommending new and revised policies and programs to the Board of Commissioners, and implementing county programs and services in an effective and efficient manner.
Wanda Greene was named Buncombe County Manager in May, 1997, and she began serving in that position on July 1, 1997. Greene is the third county manager in Buncombe County’s history.
Greene holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration, Master’s degree in Public Administration, and Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. In addition to being a Certified Public Accountant, she has earned certifications as Certified Governmental Financial Manager, Certified Internal Auditor, and Certified Fraud Examiner.
Location and Hours of Operation:
The County Manager's office is located in the Administrative Services Building at 205 College Street in Suite 300 in downtown Asheville. This office is open from 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday.
