The Mission of the Buncombe County Department of Social Services is to provide Buncombe citizens resources and services to maximize their well-being and self-determination.

We aim to prevent abuse, neglect, and exploitation of vulnerable citizens, as well as, promote self-reliance and self-sufficiency for individuals and families. Our staff is committed to providing Buncombe's diverse population with effective services in a timely and respectful manner.

Does Your Teenager Need a Work Permit and How Do They Get One?

A work permit or Youth Employment Certificate (YEC) is required for all youth employed under 18 years of age.
