The people of Buncombe County’s most vital records are stored in the Register of Deeds’ Office. All Buncombe land transactions, births, deaths, and marriages are recorded there.

The office maintains:

  • a real property index of the county, including deeds, easements, rights of way, and leaseholds
  • instruments of security such as mortgages and deeds of trust and conditional sales contracts
  • military service records
  • records of the office of notaries public and corporate records including charters, amendments and dissolutions, partnership agreements, businesses operating under assumed names
  • and various other records
